Eagle System Fundamentals
All martial arts have certain fundamentals. These fundamentals are what makes the martial art effective--the principles and structure behind the movement. Unfortunately, in many martial arts school (most, actually) students do not actually work directly and explicitly on mastering the fundamentals. In most cases, instructors teach the basic, first level techniques to new students, assuming that the student will pick up and understand the fundamentals through their usage in the basic techniques.
Often, though, students don't. Certainly not right away, and often not for years. Attending almost any martial arts tournament will give you numerous examples of students who know where their arms and legs should be, and yet their techiques would not work on anything except air--because the fundamentals that would make those arm and leg movements effective are non-existant.
In the Eagle System, we have broken down certain standard fundamentals common to many martial arts into eight areas. In each area, students will explicitly work on their understanding and application of the fundamental, integrating it into their basic movement--and having a lot of fun as they do it.
The Eight Fundamental Areas are:
| Structure and Movement | Balance and Grounding |
| Tumbling | Groundwork |
| Takedowns | Throws |
| Strikes | Kicks |
Students in the Eagle System will learn proper structure, movement, power generation, and weight management--and be extremely effective at their techniques. And as we said, they'll get to have a lot of fun doing it. Children interested in any athletic endeavor will benefit from the Eagle System.
There is actually a ninth fundamental area, and that is Self-Development. While all of the other areas develop skills in mental and physical areas, the ninth fundamental integrates them all with emotional development. One of the great benefits of martial arts practice is the emphasis on responsible, appropriate behavior. Students will practice self-control and self-discipline, and you will see the results!
